Medical Missions

Medical Missions are our way of giving back in a small way to the rest of the world.  We have not included this as part of the website as a means of self-aggrandizement, but rather we have mention this as a possible inspiration to others.  We are lucky enough to have been born with the requisite academic ability and drive to make it through plastic surgery training, but everybody has unique and special talents to help others.  We encourage you to discuss that with us if you so desire.  We encourage you to volunteer at a local homeless shelter, help out a neighbor, go to your local nursing home or visit a an animal rescue facility, or help at you place of worship.  We can all give back in some way to make this world a little nicer for others.

Recent Medical Missions:

July, 2010  Tlaxcala, Mexico

Tlaxcala is a wonderful town 1 1/2 hours from Mexico City.  Once again, Smile Train arranged this medical exchange program.  This time, we worked with Dr. Blas, and it was an honor to be able to do our part to help.  We also visited the DIF (a government run program for abused children). Katie Gelman, Dr. Gelman’s daughter, collected stuffed animals at home and brought them to children at the Hospital General de Tlaxcala and all the children at the DIF.

March, 2010 Port-Au-Prince, Haiti

We are all aware of the devastation from the earthquakes in Haiti.  It was an honor to be able to go a do a small part to help.

July 2009 – Comitan, Mexico

This was a wonderful Smile Train sponsored mission.  We had the pleasure to work with Dr. Rafa Ruiz on cleft lip and palate surgeries for the poor children of Chiapas, the southernmost portion of Mexico adjacent to Guatemala.
